Bard Composix Hernia PatchThe first in a series of four bellwether trials involving Kugel hernia patch lawsuits will begin on March 25 in the U.S. District Court for the District of Rhode Island. Chief Judge Mary M. Lisi will preside over the cases in the federal multi-district litigation (MDL). More than a thousand lawsuits have been filed against Davol, Inc., manufacturer of the Composix Kugel Patches in federal courts.

One answer can be found in the case of a repair device made by a subsidiary of C. R. Bard Inc. In late 2005, the company sent out a , urging doctors to stop using some versions of the product because a plastic component could break and cut through a patient’s internal organs and tissue.
